Funding Realities for Nonprofits

Liz Rodriguez with The Foundation Center gives an overview in N.Y. about fundraising for nonprofits to IYLEP 2013 students.

"You get money by creating compelling visions that people want to be part of," said Rodriguez.

According to Rodriguez, small checks from individuals to charitable causes make 73 percent of the bulk of U.S. philanthropy.

She also pointed out that charging fees for services and finding diverse revenue streams are key for nonprofits that want to be successful and achieve long-term sustainability.

"You need to have a well thought-out mission," said Rodriguez.
